Annthennath: States of liberating departure

05/10/10  ||  InquisitorGeneralis

Wow, this is some godawful shit. I don’t cover many of the label-sent materials for a reason: anal vomit like this. Annthennath is the reason why people like me and Daemonomania makes fun of people for liking black metal. As soon as I heard Shaxul burp out “oooohhhh” twice during the craptastic blastfest “Emotional balance” I knew that I would be unable to hide my true hatred for this stuff. There may be one or two decent guitar solos on “Shits of liberating debowelment” but for the most part every single fucken awful song on here is blast, blast, blast with screech, screech, screech. Oh, and the production sucks total balls. This sounds like it was recorded in a cell in the Bastille.

There is no creativity or variation between the songs at all. Annthennath sometimes break things down for about 5 seconds before going right back to blasterbating themselves. Yuck. Two minutes into “Bloody rivers” the band manages to bust out one genuinely cool section. There is another decent solo somewhere near the end of that song too. The beginning of “Atomic demise” is also decent but, sure enough, it gets ruined two minutes in by some of the worst blasting and vocals I have ever heard. That’s it in terms of the good stuff. Seriously

Annthennath hails from France and completely sets the Baguette Surrender Squad Nation back after the gains they achieved in Alsace and Lorraine with Yyrkoon and Gojira. What in the holy hell is there in France to be so pissed off about? Last time I checked these guys are not Algerian so nothing to be angry about on that front. Be happy fuckos, you are not speaking German. Go to the Louvre and see some fucken art. That will make you feel better. Or maybe head down to Cannes and see an art house flick or take a dip in Mediterranean Sea. These are all good things fuckwads. When Norwegians who live in 10 months of darkness in the freezing fucking cold make Black Metal, I get it. I don’t like it, but I understand. You are from one of the oldest, most affluent, artistic, and educated countries in the goddamn world. Sorry, there is nothing grvm about champagne and Escargot.

If you like relentless, brutal, boring, repetitive, shitty sounding, and just plain awful BM then by all means check these frogs out. I really need to stop doing label-sent material. And what is up with the Black Metal pen names? Shaxul? Mordrak? No. fucken 6? Are you serious? Well I guess Pierre, Thierry, and Renault just don’t sound grim enough. Check out the track names while you are at it. Let me finish this with some two-word phrases of my own to describe “States of Liberating Departure”…

Repugnant flatulence
Aural asswiping
Felching babies
Anus assault
Burrito burst
Beyond terrible
